Dear CPU Scorekeeper

I have a Packard Bell 1600 Supreme computer that I want to upgrade.

Could you tell me what CPU I need?

The Packard Bell Legend Supreme 1600 normally shipped with a pre-MMX Pentium-133MHz processor. As you are discovering and can readily see on our main CPU Scorecard list, it languishes pretty far down on today's processor food chain.

To upgrade your CPU on the same motherboard, you will require an upgrade kit, such as those offered by PowerLeap, Evergreen Technologies, or Kingston Technology (linked to our Vendors page). These kits include a new processor and the required adapters and voltage regulators to fit onto an older Socket-5 or Socket-7 motherboard. They can bring your system up to the performance of a K6-2/366  (Kingston), K6-2/400  (Evergreen) or even a K6-III/400 (PowerLeap), depending on how much you want to spend. From our CPU Comparator, you can see that these upgrades would provide a speed increase to more than three, four, or five times your current pace!

It is also likely you will need to increase your computer's memory and hard drive storage to adequately meet today's software requirements.
